A former television sports broadcaster has joined the Manitoba government as a political staffer.
Leah Hextall, once employed by CTV Winnipeg before taking on high-profile roles with Rogers Sportsnet and ESPN, was appointed to the position of creative communications specialist effective Nov. 13.
According to a Nov. 22 cabinet order released Wednesday, Hextall will receive a starting salary of $77,695.

Hextall played a prominent role at the Manitoba Progressive Conservative party’s annual general meeting in Winnipeg early this month. At the event, she asked friendly questions of Premier Brian Pallister in a session dubbed a “fireside chat.”
Pallister has used the format to communicate with party members at the last two PC annual meetings instead of giving a formal speech.
