ANOTHER Winnipeg restaurant — this time a high-profile Osborne Village eatery — is closing permanently. It had been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

Segovia, known for its Spanish-influenced small plates, announced on its Instagram account Wednesday it is going out of business.

“We are terribly sad to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to close the big wooden doors at Segovia permanently,” the statement read. “We will miss this little restaurant and cherish the memories that were made here.

“We are sad that we didn’t get to have a really good closing up party and that we served our last service without knowing that it was our last.”

Segovia, located at 484 Stradbrook Ave, opened in 2009 when owner/chef Adam Donnelly was just 26 years old.

In 2018, it was named No. 46 on Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants list. Judges lauded the menu’s mix of traditional and contemporary tapas.

Donnelly couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday.

Days ago, Tony Roma’s on Nairn Avenue closed for good, and some in the hospitality industry believe this is only the beginning of a string of permanent restaurant closures owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

In its Instagram post, Segovia paid tribute to its staff, suppliers and guests.

“We are so proud to have been a part of Winnipeg’s inspiring culinary scene for over a decade. Thank you for having us. All the best to each and every one of you that have graced our tables,” the statement read. “May your plates and cups always be full of the good stuff.”

Mike O’Shea is more likely to cough up his credit card information than share anything about an injured player.

That especially rings true when it comes to the quarterback position — and Zach Collaros.

The starting pivot for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-2) left Sunday’s 14-13 win in Hamilton on the first play of the second quarter after being strip-sacked from the blind side.

Collaros is on the injury report with a neck issue and is listed as questionable for Friday’s date with the visiting Toronto Argonauts (2-2).

This year has been a tragic one for Manitoba’s motorcycle community.

The latest fatality involves a 56-year-old Steinbach woman who crashed in Whiteshell Provincial Park on Sunday, the sixth motorcycle-related death of 2026.

The woman died in hospital after she lost control while heading eastbound on Highway 44 near Provincial Road 312. RCMP said Tuesday she flipped the bike into the south ditch at about 5:30 p.m. Her identity has not been released.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate debris or gravel on a curve in the road may have been a factor.

Dauphin hospital to stay closed for extended period owing to flood damage

Morgan Modjeski 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 9:03 PM CDT

The hospital in Dauphin will remain closed for months as officials assess and rectify the damage caused by severe flooding.

Internal documents sent to staff from the CEO of Prairie Mountain Health, which were obtained by the Free Press, indicate the Dauphin Regional Health Centre has sustained “significant damage” as a result of recent intense flooding in the Parkland region.

“While initial response efforts have allowed us to better understand the impacts to the facility, extensive damage to critical infrastructure particularly within the basement level of the hospital has been identified,” wrote Treena Slate. “As a result, the closure of the Dauphin Regional Health Centre will need to remain in effect for an extended period while assessments, repairs and remediation activities are completed.”

The documents said the disruptions will continue for “several months” as engineering, infrastructure and operational experts conduct further assessments this week to “determine the full scope of the damage.”

Manitoba’s public school system is receiving high praise from a Nigerian king who sent his only son to Grade 12 in Transcona.

Prince Adetola Samuel Owoade — known as “Sam,” to friends and family — kept his royal title under wraps throughout his tenure at Transcona Collegiate.

It wasn’t until an end-of-year ceremony that many of Sam’s peers and their families learned nobility was among the Class of 2026.

His Royal Majesty, Abimbola Owoade I, was unable to vacate his throne in southwestern Nigeria for the occasion, but he made his fatherly pride known.
