A 32-year-old St. Boniface man is facing child pornography charges following an investigation involving local and national authorities.

Winnipeg police’s internet child exploitation unit learned that in June, the man allegedly created an account on a Russian-based image hosting site where he uploaded sexually suggestive photos of a young girl. In July, more photos of that girl were uploaded to the site, and in August, the man made sexual comments online in regard to young children.

The activity was flagged by the RCMP’s national child exploitation coordination centre.

Winnipeg police searched the central St. Boniface residence on Monday and seized electronic devices. Later in the day, the accused was found and arrested at a business in north St. Boniface.

To protect the identity of the child involved in the incident, the accused’s identity is not being released.

The man is in custody.
