BRANDON — A psychiatric nurse who has given up her right to practise is being sued for allegedly calling her former co-workers “idiots” and claiming the Brandon hospital “tries to kill its patients” in videos posted to social media.
Prairie Mountain Health and 10 employees want the Court of Queen’s Bench to order the defendant to remove the posts from her social-media accounts, specifically four TikTok videos.
They are seeking an injunction against “further defaming, disparaging or otherwise damaging the plaintiffs’ reputation and goodwill.”
The Brandon Sun has chosen to withhold the names of the accused and individual plaintiffs.
In January, the defendant uploaded a video to TikTok in which she called several of the plaintiffs “idiots” and “horrible nurses,” and reportedly said they don’t care about patients at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, the statement of claim alleges.
She allegedly called parts of the hospital “sh—y” and claimed one of the plaintiffs is a “lazy b—-.”
In a second TikTok video in January 2022, she said hospital staff made fun of homeless people and she alleged the hospital “tries to kill its patients,” the statement of claim alleges.
A third post allegedly said another nurse at the hospital was “incompetent” and hospital staff “tried to get the defendant to commit suicide.”
The suit says the plaintiffs “have been injured in their feelings, in their personal and professional character and reputation… (and) have also suffered personal embarrassment, humiliation, fear, and anxiety.”
It went on to say the plaintiffs had demanded the defendant cease and desist and she had “refused or neglected and continues to refuse and neglect to cease and desist as so demanded.”
The lawsuit says the posts are false and malicious.
A listing on the website of the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba says the nurse voluntarily surrendered her eligibility to practise earlier this year.
On Tuesday, the health authority refused to comment on the lawsuit.
