Winnipeg has a big problem when it comes to how it’s perceived in terms of crime by the rest of the country, a new poll has found.
Canadians believe Winnipeg is the least safe city in the country, a Mainstreet/Postmedia poll has revealed.
A total of 55 per cent of the country view Winnipeg as unsafe, compared to only 14 per cent who feel the same way about Ottawa, the best-ranked city in the survey.

That seemed accurate so far as the increase in crime in 2016. Winnipeg led the country with a 13 per cent increase in its crime rate, and a 16 per cent increase in serious crimes last year. Regina showed the second largest increase at 11 per cent and 15 per cent respectively.
Winnipeg was 15th out of 15 cities included in the survey. Only Toronto challenged Winnipeg’s reputation, with 52 per cent saying it was unsafe.
The Mainstream/Postmedia poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.16 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
