How have Manitoba’s cities and towns managed the resettlement of a surge of Syrian refugees? Manitobans are invited to a public forum Oct. 24 at the University of Winnipeg to find out.
The event, Finding Refuge in Canada: A Syrian Resettlement Story, is being hosted by two Canadian senators on the standing committee for human rights — Jim Munson and Salma Ataullahjan. They’re being joined by representatives of Regional Connections, a one-stop-shop that provides services, resources and referrals for newcomers living in south central Manitoba and the Winnipeg Immigration Partnership, which aims to create a community with a strong desire and capacity to receive newcomers and make them feel at home.
They will be discussing Manitoba’s urban and small-centre experiences in resettling Syrian refugees from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday on the first floor of U of W’s Lockhart Hall. The event is free.
