Hey there, time traveller!

Well it’s that time of year again. Yes, I know It’s hard to imagine but the World Series of Poker has arrived.

I am sitting on an aircraft on my way down to Vegas to take part in the largest tournament series in the world. One of my great buddies Clayton is coming down with me and we are hoping to both have a successful trip.

Clayton is going to play in a couple of major tournaments, a 10-K stud high low event and a 10-K horse event. For a young guy it’s pretty amazing the results that Clayton always seems to put up in these events. We both have high expectations for him in his quest to bring back Winnipeg’s first gold bracelet. Good luck buddy!

Actually, Clayton’s trip has already started out well. Going through customs it didn’t seem as if he was going to make our flight. I waited till the last possible moment and finally had to board the plane. I had already lost hope as the pilot came on to tell us we were going to be pushed back. I looked at my watch, it was 11:43 a.m. and our flight was scheduled to take off at 11:50. Just as I had lost hope, there came good old Clayton holding his belt in one hand and his pants up with the other. Wow, he made it.

As far as some other ‘Peg city players, our good friend Zenni won a Deepstack event at the Venetian last week. There was no chop involved as Zenni decided to just win the tournament outright. Thatta boy.

With all the talent that we have in Winnipeg I really feel it is just a matter of time before someone comes home with a bracelet. Obviously this is no easy task but with the amount of skill to come out of the ‘Peg, I feel it will happen sooner rather than later.

As far as my own trip goes, it will be more of the same for me. I really never get too caught up playing tournaments, as I focus most of my attention in the cash games. This year I am hoping the games will be better than ever seeing as how online poker has been banned in the U.S.

Every casino has reported an increase in cash game traffic this year and this has to be mainly due to the fact that American players can no longer play online. It might be easier to find a good game seeing as how the last few years at the WSOP it has really been hit or miss.

I will probably take a shot at a tournament or two. Actually, now that I think about it, I’m kind of getting the tournament bug so yeah I will definitely play some tourneys while I’m down there.

Most players after winning a bracelet talk about how the money doesn’t really mean anything to them it was the bracelet they were out to get. Being a cash game player myself, winning a bracelet would not really mean all that much to me. The cash on the other hand would definitely put a smile on my face.
