A Winnipeg man is facing luring and child-pornography charges after a police internet child exploitation unit investigation. Officers were alerted to abuse images involving a Winnipeg residence that were uploaded to social media in December, police said.

The unit identified a suspect and executed a warrant at a home on the 1600 block of Pritchard Avenue on Feb. 23. The suspect was arrested for accessing and possessing child pornography, and police seized two cellphones.

Between August 2019 and February, abuse images were made, possessed, accessed and distributed — and yet-to-be-identified children were contacted for the purpose of luring.

Police allege the suspect also sent four victims sexually explicit material.

Investigators, along with the technological crimes section, discovered more than 120 photos and videos of child sex abuse on the electronic devices.

The suspect was then charged with additional offences last week.

Kenneth Scott Coffey, 69, of Winnipeg, is charged with four counts of luring, three counts of making sexually explicit material available to children under 18, and multiple other child-pornography offences.

He was released on an appearance notice.

The internet child exploitation unit is still investigating; anyone with information can call the unit at 204-986-6172 or the child abuse unit at 204-986-3296.
