After 19 years of Winnipeg being recognized as the Slurpee Capital of the World, the city is naming a suburban block Slurpee Way.
The stretch of Rouge Road from Portage Avenue to Byrd Avenue in Westwood will be given the honorary name, the City of Winnipeg said Thursday. The block contains a 7-Eleven convenience store, which sells the sugary slush drink.
There will be new street signage in place on July 11, the 7-Eleven Corporation’s 91st birthday, said Kalen Qually, a communications officer for the city.
The signage will be up for two years.
