Rams knock off Bisons in conference semi

Nicholas Sirleaf’s 16-yard touchdown reception with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter lifted the Regina Rams to a 28-25 triumph over the Manitoba Bisons in Canada West university football semifinal action at Princess Auto Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The fourth-seeded Rams, who finished the regular season 3-5, will face the winner of Saturday’s other conference semifinal between the UBC Thunderbirds and Saskatchewan Huskies.
Brandon man found slain in Swan River

RCMP are investigating after a Brandon man was found dead in a park in Swan River late Friday.
Swan River RCMP said when officers went to the park, at about 11 p.m., they found a 21-year-old Brandon man with obvious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his death has been determined to be a homicide.
RCMP are asking anyone with information to call the detachment at 204-734-4686 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or send in a secure tip at manitobacrimestoppers.com.
Man arrested after standoff

A 30-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested after barricading himself inside a residence for several hours with a large edged weapon.
Winnipeg police said on Saturday that when they responded to a “family trouble incident” they saw “an agitated adult male on the front porch with a large edged weapon” before the man went inside the residence in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue at about 4 a.m.
Police said they waited outside for several hours, hoping to deescalate the incident, but when that didn’t work the tactical team used pepper spray and then a taser to take him into custody.
The man is facing several charges including possession of a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and resist a police officer.
He has been detained in custody.
Woman slain behind Portage Place

A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman found unresponsive on The Promenade behind Portage Place died from her injuries.
Winnipeg police said on Saturday that Briannah Clowes, 28, of Winnipeg died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition on Thursday at about 3:10 p.m. Her family has been notified about her death.
Officers had rushed to the 100 block of the street in response to a report of an unresponsive woman.
Police said the investigation is continuing and no one has been arrested.
