Jets fall 3-1 to Flames to close out eight-game homestand
8:46 PM
It will go down as a good homestand that had the potential to be great.
The Winnipeg Jets closed out the season-long eight-game homestand on Saturday with an effort they could be more than comfortable with, but they ran into a hot goaltender and fell 3-1 to the Calgary Flames at Canada Life Centre.
The Jets generated plenty of quality opportunities and didn’t give up much either, but Flames Dustin Wolf made 38 saves and Blake Coleman scored an empty-net goal and chipped in two assists.
Jets captain Adam Lowry scored the lone goal for the home side, while Eric Comrie finished with 19 saves.
The Jets, who finished the homestand with a record of 4-2-2 and now sit 31-13-2 overall, open a two-game road trip on Monday in Salt Lake City against Utah HC.
Firefighters tackle blaze on Driftwater Trail
6:18 PM
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service extinguished a house fire on Driftwater Trail on Saturday.
Crews arrived there at 1:27 p.m. and declared the fire under control shortly after 2 p.m.
All the residents got out safely before crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.
Residents were asked to proceed with caution in the area, as water used to extinguish the fire created slippery conditions. City crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required.

Police said a fellow passenger saw a man with the hatchet and contacted authorities. The man was arrested when he got off the bus at Pioneer Avenue and Main Street at about 12:15 p.m.
The bus driver had confiscated the hatchet and gave it to police.
The man didn’t threaten anyone on the bus with the hatchet but threatened to kill police officers while in custody, the Winnipeg Police Service said Saturday.
