Stabbing under investigation
12:26 PM
Police are investigating after a 25-year-old woman was stabbed early this morning during a fight at a home on Alexander Avenue.
Police were called at about 3:35 a.m. Sunday to the 600 block of Alexander Avenue, where they found the victim and applied emergency medical care, including multiple chest seals. She was taken to hospital and suspects fled before officers arrived.
No arrests have been made in relation to the stabbing, but a 42-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were arrested on warrants at the scene. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 204-986-6219, anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477, or online with winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
Two men charged after stabbing each other: Winnipeg police
11:16 AM
Two men were stabbed and face charges after a confrontation between two groups on Friday afternoon.
Winnipeg Police Service officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Ellice Avenue for multiple reports of a stabbing. Officers located a 30-year-old male victim with an upper-body stabbing injury near Vaughan Street and the Promenade behind Portage Place. He needed an emergency chest seal. Another victim, a 19-year-old man, was found with an upper-body stabbing injury in the 400 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue. Both victims were taken to hospital.
Police determined the victims didn’t know each other and were part of two separate groups who were involved in a verbal confrontation on Ellice Avenue that escalated to a physical fight. Both victims pulled out edged weapons and stabbed each other, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday.
The 30-year-old man and 19-year-old man, both of Winnipeg, face charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. A 25-year-old Winnipeg man faces a charge of possession of a weapon. Their names haven’t been publicly released by police.
All three were released on undertakings.
WPS Const. Claude Chancy would not share if the weapons were machetes or if the confrontation was gang related. Police don’t anticipate any further arrests.
