Man performed indecent act in front of Kelvin students, school says

A man was arrested after approaching four students and performing an indecent act Monday, officials from Kelvin High School said Monday.

A letter to parents said the incident happened during a physical education class being held at nearby Munson Park.

“It’s an unfortunate incident,” Winnipeg School Division superintendent Matt Henderson said, adding students quickly got away and informed school staff members.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said officers were sent to the park shortly after 10:30 a.m.

A 42-year-old man was arrested in the area shortly after 11 a.m., Chancy said. The man is facing a charge of performing an indecent act.

Consultations on bilingualism begin

The NDP government has launched public consultations on how to make Manitoba “a truly bilingual province.”

A survey is now online, and Manitobans who want to send more detailed written remarks or documents can email bilingualmanitobabilingue@gov.mb.ca. Anyone who wants to attend in-person consultations can email the same address.

“I invite the public to tell us how we can make Louis Riel’s dream of a bilingual province a reality and provide us with suggestions on how to best ensure that francophone Manitobans are better able to engage personally and professionally in their language of choice,” Glen Simard, the minister responsible for francophone affairs, said in a news release Monday.

Man sought in Melita robbery, assault

RCMP are searching for a man after a mugging in Melita.

Police were sent to Front Street in the southwest Manitoba town at about midnight Wednesday after a 64-year-old man was robbed while walking home from a business.

A stranger demanded money from the victim, assaulted him and made off with cash, RCMP said in a news release Monday.

The man suffered minor injuries, police said.

A warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Spear Ironman, who is believed to be in Brandon, RCMP said. He is wanted on charges of robbery, uttering threats and assault causing bodily harm.

Update: Missing Thompson woman found

Police have located a woman reported missing from Thompson last week.

RCMP were contacted about Cherilyn Weenusk, 31, late on the night of June 3. She was last seen earlier that day, RCMP said in a news release Monday.

Weenusk was described as 4-10 in height, 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Missing Stonewall man found, is safe

A missing Stonewall man last heard from more than a month ago has been found and is safe, RCMP said.

Manitoba RCMP had asked for the public’s help in finding Clifford Johnson, 55, late Monday morning.

They announced less than four hours later that he had been found.

Woman charged in Gillam slaying

A Gillam woman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a senior in the northern community.

RCMP were sent to a home at 12:55 a.m. Friday and found an injured 65-year-old man who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested a 22-year-old woman who knows the man at the scene, RCMP said Monday.

Jodi Ann Ouskan was remanded into custody before a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
