Erratic man arrested at U of M; medical assessment requested

1:17 PM

People were threatened by an erratic, aggressive armed man at the University of Manitoba’s track and field stadium at about 11;30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The incident led to criminal charges for 45-year-old Arbin Duku Muhaxheri. The suspect was acting aggressively in the stands of the stadium on Chancellor Matheson Road, and then threatened a coach and three security officers on the field with a “pointed, hand-fashioned weapon and a rock,” the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. No one was hurt.

Police determined the man has no connection to the U of M. Police eventually took him into custody after about an hour of trying to communicate with him while he was hiding in a nearby retention pond, refusing to come out. Police requested a medical assessment.

Muhaxheri was charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and four counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Suspect accused of pointing gun, following driver

12:14 PM

A 36-year-old man has been criminally charged after allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist on Pembina Highway.

The victim called police on Saturday afternoon after he noticed he was being followed by a former acquaintance while driving northbound on Pembina Highway. The suspect, following closely behind in his own vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim, and continued to do so even after the victim attempted to evade the vehicle by turning around, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. The incident happened just after 2 p.m. July 12.

The suspect eventually turned onto a side street and the victim called police, as per the release. Officers went to a home on Briarlynn Road and arrested the suspect. Police later seized a black pellet gun.

Edgar Borja Reyes, 36, has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon and three counts of failure to comply with a condition of a release order. He was detained in custody.
