Crash leads to discovery of cocaine, shotgun

2:50 PM

A 27-year-old woman faces impaired driving charges and was allegedly found in possession of a gun and cocaine after she rear-ended another vehicle stopped at a red light on Maryland Street near Portage Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which happened at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday and caused substantial damage to both vehicles, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. Following the crash, the woman was arrested for signs of intoxication and a search of her vehicle revealed an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun and 20 grams of cocaine worth about $1,600, police said.

In addition to impaired driving offences, the woman, whose name hasn’t been released, also faces charges related to drug possession for the purposes of trafficking and firearms offences. She was released on an undertaking with a court appearance notice.

Suspect accused of brandishing gun, stealing scooter

9:27 AM

An 18-year-old male has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a gun and stealing a teen’s scooter.

At what was meant to be a meet-up for the purposes of selling the electric scooter, a 16-year-old male victim was near the back of a home in the 300 block of Springfield Road at about 3:30 p.m. June 10, when the other young man arrived, “and while examining the scooter, brandished a gun, and took the scooter before fleeing the area,” the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday.

A suspect was arrested Aug. 8 just before 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue. Simon Bahati is charged with armed robbery using a firearm and was detained in custody.
