Remains of missing woman located: RCMP
7:32 PM
A 32-year-old woman reported missing in St. Theresa Point First Nation on Monday has been found dead.
RCMP say criminality is not suspected in the death of Destiny Wood, but the investigation remains open until autopsy results are delivered.
Wood was reported missing to RCMP shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Outdoor museum gains status
4:17 PM
Winnipeg’s Living Prairie Museum is now officially a Key Biodiversity Area and part of a national network of sites considered critical to the survival of the country’s most at-risk and unique species and ecosystems.
The designation was announced Wednesday by the Wildlife Conservation Society of Canada.
The 13-hectare preserve in St. James is one of Manitoba’s last largely unplowed tallgrass prairies and listed as a provincially-endangered ecosystem, the society said in a news release. The city-managed site is home to more than 150 native plant species, more than 300 insect species (including the globally imperiled Whitney’s Underwing moth and the Threatened Yellow-banded Bumble Bee), and a one-of-a-kind wildflower that grows in only two locations in Canada (Downy Gentian – Gentiana puberulenta).
The city-managed nature park with an interpretive centre and year-round educational programs is supported by non-profit partners such as the Friends of the Living Prairie Museum and through volunteering and fundraising.
Six more measles cases announced
3:25 PM
The Manitoba government announced six new confirmed cases of measles Wednesday, for a total of 204 since February.
The number of probable cases remains 16.
The numbers are accurate as of Saturday.
The province also warned the public Wednesday about another location where people might have been exposed to measles. Public health officials asked anyone who was at the St. Boniface Hospital cafeteria between noon and 2:30 p.m. Friday to check their immunization records and ensure they are up to date with measles vaccines.
Drunk driver who killed woman in 2022 denied parole
2:48 PM
The man who killed a 24-year-old woman while driving drunk in a high-speed hit-and-run collision in Transcona in 2022 was denied parole at a hearing in Stony Mountain prison on Wednesday.
In November 2023, Tyler Scott Goodman was sentenced to seven years — six for impaired driving causing death and one for leaving the scene — in prison for the collision that killed 24-year-old Jordyn Reimer on May 1, 2022, sparking outrage from her family and loved ones.
Goodman’s Wednesday hearing, presided over by Parole Board of Canada members Lisa Graham and Lesley Monkman, was to assess whether he could be deemed ready for day or full parole.
Monkman said he’s not yet ready for either.
Most federal prisoners are able to apply for day parole six months before they become eligible for full parole, which they typically can apply for after serving a third of their sentence.
One arrested in home invasion
2:30 PM
A man was taken to hospital after a home invasion in Thompson involving six attackers armed with a machete and a baseball bat.
The incident happened on Princeton Drive at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later flown to Winnipeg for more treatment. A 29-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
The suspects caused damage within the home and fled on foot.
Police arrested a 23-year-old local man in the area. He was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and breaking and entering. The man was remanded into custody.
More arrests are expected. Police asked anyone with information about the home invasion to contact Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909, or Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.

Few details after Abinoji Mikanah crash
10:54 AM
A flipped car stopped traffic on Abinoji Mikanah on Tuesday evening in what police called a “serious incident.”
Police confirmed they were sent to an incident in the area but did not provide any details Wednesday morning.
One witness told the Free Press ambulances and police vehicles were on the stretch between River and St. Mary’s roads at about 6:30 p.m. and later blocked traffic.
She said she had previously worried about vehicle accidents caused by street racing in the area.
“The racing down that stretch of highway in the summer is unbelievable … they would gather at St. Vital mall and then just hit the highway,” the woman, who asked not to be named, told the Free Press.
Police said they will send a news release on the incident at some point.
Man charged with assaulting woman, kids in Winnipegosis
9:56 AM
A man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted three people — including two children — and later grabbed a police officer’s neck while being taken to a cell.
Winnipegosis RCMP were sent to a home in the community after an “intimate partner” assault was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. Officers arrested a man walking out of the home.
Investigators learned the man had assaulted a woman and two children under the age of 10, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Wednesday. Emergency crews treated the victims for minor injuries.
Police said the man, 23, became “highly aggressive” while they drove him to the RCMP detachment. He later tried to grab an officer and ended up getting hold of the Mountie’s neck and vest, police said. The officer was not hurt.
The man is facing two counts each of assault while choking, assault with a weapon, assault and failing to comply with a release order, and single counts of assault on a police officer and uttering threats
