Man arrested after stolen car stopped by police
11:32 AM
A man has been arrested and charged following a pursuit of a stolen truck in which two Winnipeg police vehicles were damaged.
At 1:16 a.m. on Saturday, officers observed a stolen 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 with Alberta plates travelling northbound on Sherbrook Street at Ellice Avenue. Officers followed the stolen vehicle from a distance while several other units flooded the area. Officers used a safe window of opportunity to box the vehicle in at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Smith Street.
The 28-year-old driver attempted to break containment, police said, causing minor damage to two police vehicles. The containment was successful and the driver was arrested without further incident. Once identified, police learned the driver is bound by two lifetime driving prohibitions.
No injuries were reported.
Chad Jeffery Stacey has been charged with flight while pursued by peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation of a conveyance while prohibited by order under Criminal Code and operation of a conveyance while prohibited pursuant to federal or provincial act
Stacey was detained in custody.
