Car seized, driver arrested after road rage incident

12:43 PM

A 27-year-old driver faces criminal charges after a downtown road rage incident that included the use of brass knuckles, the Winnipeg Police Service stated Sunday.

It happened at Broadway and Donald Street Saturday afternoon. Police received multiple reports of the on-street violence after two male drivers exited their vehicles and got in an argument that escalated. Police determined that a 35-year-old driver of a 2018 Infiniti Q50 and a 27-year-old driver of a 2015 Audi A4 were arguing when the 27-year-old punched the 35-year-old repeatedly, and then, while the victim was on the ground, the other driver went back to his vehicle to get the brass knuckles and continue the assault on the victim and the victim’s vehicle.

The two men didn’t know each other. The victim had minor injuries and didn’t need medical attention. His vehicle had about $150 in damage.

A 27-year-old suspect faces charges of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Police seized the suspect’s vehicle, along with brass knuckles, a 12-inch hunting knife, 16 grams of crack cocaine and $1,100 in cash. Police determined he didn’t have a valid driver’s licence.
