2:10 PM

The Winnipeg Jets have put a pair of players on waivers as they get down to their final roster cuts.

Defenceman Ville Heinola and forward Walker Duehr will both be sent to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League unless another team makes a claim by Monday afternoon.

Sunday’s moves leave the Jets with 24 healthy skaters on their roster. They must get down to a maximum of 23 by Monday.

2:08 PM

The Winnipeg Jets have lost another key player to injury.

Forward Cole Perfetti suffered a high-ankle sprain in Friday’s final preseason game in Calgary and is out “week-to-week” according to head coach Scott Arniel.

Perfetti joins captain Adam Lowry (hip surgery) and defenceman Dylan Samberg (broken wrist) on the sidelines.

Winnipeg begins the 2025-26 season on Thursday when they host the Dallas Stars at Canada Life Centre.

The deadline for nominations is Dec. 4. Forms and criteria are available online.

The inmate, from Wasagamack, was stabbed and died at the scene, Stonewall RCMP said in a news release Sunday. Mounties were sent there at 10:10 p.m.

Woman bit officer during robbery: police

A woman has been charged after she allegedly bit an off-duty police officer in St. Vital on Saturday.

The Winnipeg Police Service said an off-duty officer saw a woman trying to leave a store on the 1000 block of Abinojii Mikanah without paying for merchandise shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The officer tried to arrest the woman, who allegedly swung her arms at him and bit his hand.

A 22-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer and theft under $5,000. She was detained in custody.

Jets extend Chibrikov for two seasons

8:56 AM

The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with forward Nikita Chibrikov on a two-year contract extension that kicks in next season, according to his agent Dan Milstein.

Chibrikov, who is entering his third season playing in North America after he was chosen by the Jets in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, got a one-way deal that carries an average annual value of US $875,000.

By the time the new deal kicks in, Chibrikov will no longer be exempt from waivers.

The feisty forward has five NHL games on his resume and he’s been productive in a small sample size, producing three goals and an assist.

Chibrikov, 22, has 24 goals and 65 points in 100 American Hockey League games with the Manitoba Moose and missed a good chunk of last season with a knee injury.

The Jets return to the ice this morning and open the new season at Canada Life Centre on Thursday against the Dallas Stars.
