Man arrested after Elmwood police chase

12:41 PM

A 45-year-old man is accused of leading Winnipeg police on a chase in a stolen truck that ended with a Taser arrest Saturday night.

It happened after officers intervened in a domestic incident in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue just before 9 p.m. Oct. 18. No details were provided about the nature of the domestic incident officers observed, but when they attempted to box in the suspect’s 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck, which had previously been reported stolen, the man allegedly sped in the direction of an officer and led police on a chase through Elmwood that involved the police helicopter, a ground pursuit and a successful deployment of a stop stick.

The suspect abandoned the disabled vehicle near Nottingham Avenue and Molson Street and tried to break into a garage in the 400 block of Kent Road, police stated in a news release. Police eventually used a Taser on him and arrested him. The suspect’s name hasn’t been released to protect the identity of the involved parties, the Winnipeg Police Service stated.

He is charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight while pursued by a peace officer, dangerous driving, resisting a peace officer, breaking and entering, uttering threats, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order. He was taken into custody.

Restaurant staff assaulted

12:13 PM

A 24-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting three restaurant workers in the 1100 block of Main Street Saturday afternoon.

Winnipeg police said a woman had been causing a disturbance at the restaurant at about 3:48 p.m. Oct. 18 and when she was asked to leave, she assaulted employees, at one point using a key as a weapon. Several patrons stepped in to help staff until police arrived, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday afternoon.

A woman is in custody following an assault on three employees of a restaurant in the 1100 block of Main Street. All three employees were treated on scene for minor injuries.

Anika Janae Acoby-Dowan is charged with two counts of assault and assault with a weapon. She was taken into custody.
