Bombers close out regular season with victory
5:02 PM
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Montreal Alouettes 19-10 on Saturday at Princess Auto Stadium in the final week of regular-season action.
Both the Bombers and Als end the year at 10-8.
If the B.C. Lions (10-7) beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-5) tonight at Mosaic Stadium, the Bombers will end up in fourth place in the West Division and cross over to play the East semifinal in Montreal on Saturday at 1 p.m. If the Lions lose, they’ll cross over to the East and the Bombers will be the No. 3 seed in the West, which would earn them a date in Calgary on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Trans-Canada Highway west of Winnipeg reopened
3:04 PM
After closing the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway Saturday afternoon, the Province of Manitoba announced at about 5 p.m. that the road had been reopened.
It was closed earlier in the day after a motor vehicle collision.
Polls open in byelections for Winnipeg council seat, school trustees
10:18 AM
Polls are now open in byelections for city councillor in Elmwood-East Kildonan and two school trustee races.
The council byelection was called after former area city Coun. Jason Schreyer died in April.
Eligible voters in Elmwood-East Kildonan — as well as voters in Pembina Trails ward 1 and Louis Riel ward 3, where school trustee positions are vacant — can check the city’s website to find out where to vote. Polls are open until 8 p.m.
Reporter Joyanne Pursaga asked the seven candidates earlier this week what their top three priorities would be if elected.
You can find coverage of the results on our website tonight after the polls close.
