Front-end loader driven through RM of Morris business
4:51 PM
RCMP are investigating after someone drove a front-end loader through the front door of a rural business.
Police were sent to Road 6 West in the Rural Municipality of Morris shortly before 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 10.
Officers saw containers filled with diesel fuel on pallets that were on a forklift. It appears someone tried to set the building on fire, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
RCMP asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Morris detachment at 204-746-2323 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

SUPPLIED
RCMP think the person who drove a front-end loader into a business then tried to set it on fire.

Police were sent to a home in the community, also known as Norway House, at 5:10 p.m. on Oct. 21. The victim was taken to hospital and later flown to Winnipeg for more treatment, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
Investigators believe the victim was assaulted at another location and then taken to a home, where he was found about nine hours after the assault.
Police asked anyone with information about the case to call Norway House RCMP at 204-359-6483 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
IIU investigating girl’s ding dong ditch arrest by off-duty Mountie in Brandon
1:31 PM
The province’s police watchdog is investigating after an off-duty RCMP officer reportedly drove after five youths playing ding dong ditch, caught one and took her to her home in handcuffs.
The incident happened in Brandon earlier this month. The Brandon Police Service was contacted about the incident shortly after midnight on Oct. 19 and notified the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba about it on Oct. 21.
Brandon police said a woman told officers her daughter “was brought home in handcuffs after being dropped off” at her Hawthorn Crescent home by a man later identified as an off-duty RCMP officer.
The BPS learned the youths had been ringing doorbells and running away. A man got in his vehicle at one home and “gave chase,” the release said. The IIU did not state whether the man lives at the home or was visiting.
“The IIU civilian director determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate this matter,” the release said.
The IIU asked witnesses or anyone with video that might help investigators to call 1-844-667-6060.
Three charged in Misipawistik Cree Nation killing
12:59 PM
Three men are charged with manslaughter after a victim stabbed at a Misipawistik Cree Nation home died at the community’s nursing station.
Grand Rapids RCMP were sent to the home at 12:10 a.m. Saturday and found a 34-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.
An investigation determined a fight had broken out at the home between the victim and three men, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
Steven Sanderson, 25, Trenton Hudson, 24, and Pascal Bear, 19, were arrested Monday or Tuesday and remanded into custody.
“RCMP have been made aware that a video may be circulating in the community which was taken around the location and time of the homicide,” the release said.
Mounties asked anyone who has the video or information about it to call Grand Rapids RCMP at 204-639-2469 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Avian flu found on five Manitoba farms
11:30 AM
Avian Influenza has been found at five commercial poultry farms in Manitoba this month, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s website says.
The virus was detected at three sites in the Rural Municipality of Hanover on Oct. 25, Oct. 21 and Oct. 16.
Flu was detected in the Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton on Oct. 10. The first of the five October cases was detected in the Municipality of Ste. Rose the previous day.
The only other two cases in Manitoba this year were detected at a non-commercial site in the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton on May 6 and at a commercial site in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth on May 2. Orders related to those two sites are no longer in effect, the website states.
