Feds seek feedback on all-weather roads

The federal government is seeking public feedback on an environmental assessment of a proposal to build 141 kilometres of all-season gravel roads in Manitoba.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure wants to build two-lane gravel roads linking Manto Sipi Cree Nation, Bunibonibee Cree Nation and God’s Lake First Nation.
Two bridges over God’s River and Magill Creek could also be built as part of the project, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada said.
Comments can be submitted online until Dec. 8.
Two charged after shots fired on Furby Street

Two people are facing charges after someone fired a handgun on Furby Street early Tuesday.
Police were sent to the first 100 block shortly before 5:30 a.m. after multiple people reported the shots and an argument between a man and a woman. Officers arrested a man in the area and found one 9mm round of ammunition on him, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Friday.
A number of shell casings were found on the ground, and a woman believed to be involved in the incident was seen entering an apartment complex on the same block.
Police arrested another man and two women in the suite shortly before 9:30 a.m. They later returned with a warrant and seized a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and a magazine with ammunition.
A 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man are facing gun charges. They were detained in custody. The other two people were released without being charged.
Police asked anyone with information about the incident, or relevant video, to call the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
Missing senior last seen on Roblin Boulevard

Beausejour RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing senior.
Garry Neduzak, 82, was last seen fuelling his SUV on Roblin Boulevard in Winnipeg on Friday morning. He was reported missing to RCMP on Thursday evening.
Police said he might be confused and disoriented.
Neduzak is described as 5-10 in height, 200 pounds, with grey hair, a full beard and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, a grey hoodie, blue jeans and black shoes.
He was driving a red 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe, licence plate No. LCT 876.
Police asked anyone with information regarding Neduzak’s whereabouts to call Beausejour RCMP at 204-268-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.

Fourth arrest after shots fired at police vehicle

A fourth person has been charged after a gun was fired from a stolen automobile at a pursuing police vehicle.
The Manitoba First Nation Police Service tried to stop a vehicle on Lake Road in Sandy Bay First Nation at about 4 a.m. Monday. Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP were called in to help, and the vehicle was spotted on Provincial Road 278 by Reedy Creek at about 2 p.m.
One of the vehicle’s tires was flattened when it went over a spike belt placed on a roadway, but the driver continued south towards Silver Ridge. Mounties were able to stop the vehicle.
The driver — a 21-year-old man — and the two women passengers, ages 35 and 22, were charged with several offences each. The MFNPS later arrested a second man, age 35. He is charged with discharging a firearm with intent.
All four people are from Sandy Bay.
Street Links staying put for now

A homeless outreach organization will keep its city-owned property for at least one more year.
Council’s property and development committee cast a final vote Friday to extend St. Boniface Street Links lease of 604 St. Mary’s Rd. until Nov. 30, 2026, with a rent of $1 per year.
The organization has used the site to offer a 24/7 city-funded safe space since 2023.
The city is negotiating a long-term lease of the site with Street Links but hasn’t reached a deal.
Two escaped inmates caught in Winnipeg

Two men who escaped a federal, minimum-security healing lodge last month have been captured.
Staff members at O-chi-chak-ko-sipi Healing Lodge in Crane River discovered the men were missing on the evening of Oct. 30.
Cory Everett, 39, was arrested by Winnipeg police shortly after 8:45 a.m. Thursday, the Correctional Service of Canada said in a news release Friday. Clifford Lamirande, 33, was arrested by city police late on the morning of Nov. 1.
Woman charged in fatal Binscarth stabbing

One woman is dead and another is charged with manslaughter after a stabbing in Binscarth.
Russell RCMP were sent to a home shortly before 11 a.m. Monday and found an injured 53-year-old woman. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
RCMP determined the victim and a woman she knew were involved in a dispute that led to the stabbing.
Sheila Mills, a 53-year-old Binscarth resident, was arrested Thursday. She was remanded in custody.
Home invader stabbed himself: police

Police say a man “cornered” a victim during a home invasion after grabbing a butcher knife from the kitchen and stabbing himself.
A family was asleep when they heard someone break into their home on the 700 block of College Avenue shortly after midnight Friday, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.
The home invader grabbed the knife and began stabbing himself after a homeowner confronted him, then turned towards the victim, the WPS said. Police arrested the man moments later.
The man arrested was taken to hospital in stable condition because of his stab wounds, police said, adding “substance use is believed to be a factor” in the incident.
The residents were not hurt.
A 26-year-old man has been charged assault with a weapon, breaking-and-entering a dwelling house with intent and two counts of breach of recognizance. He remained in custody.
Missing Thompson woman last heard from in mid-October

RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing Thompson woman.
Miranda Lepage, 36, was last in contact with her family on Oct. 17. She was reported missing to RCMP on the morning of Nov. 1, police said in a news release Monday.
Lepage is described as 5-5 in height, 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Police asked anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to call Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909/6911 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
