The driver was co-operative with police, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone who has any information on the collision, including dashboard camera surveillance, to call WPS the Traffic Division at 204-986-7085 or leave a tip anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
Arrests made after police spot stolen vehicle
11:56 AM
Two people are facing criminal charges following a police chase in the Mandalay West area Saturday night.
A stolen Hyundai Elantra was being driven erratically on McPhillips Street near Burrows Avenue after 10 p.m. Nov. 15, and the driver fled from officers who tried to pull over the car, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday.
The police helicopter tracked the vehicle. Officers watched as the car stopped in the 1300 block of Carruthers Street and one man got out and ran. He was arrested shortly afterward.
The helicopter tracked the car to the 100 block of Leahcrest Crescent, where two remaining occupants of the vehicle were arrested. A woman, determined to be a passenger, was later released without charges.
Gagandeep Singh Bhullar, 34, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two breaches of a release order. He was detained in custody.
A 23-year-old man was released on an undertaking. He faces charges of flight while pursued by a peace officer, resisting arrest, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, as well as Highway Traffic Act offences. His name hasn’t been released.
Purse-snatching witness could have ‘crucial information,’ police say
10:26 AM
Winnipeg police are looking for a witness to a purse-snatching incident in St. Boniface on Halloween.
Police say the witness helped the victim but left before officers arrived, and they believe the individual could have “crucial information” that could help them identify suspects.
A 65-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed of her purse at about 10:15 p.m. Oct. 31. She was walking along Marion Street towards Des Meurons Street when the culprit(s) came up behind her and pulled her to the ground. She had minor injuries but didn’t need medical attention.
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone who may have witnessed the robbery, or may have video surveillance or dash-cam footage, to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219, or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
