Driver being followed by police crashes into transit bus in North End

2:41 PM

A motorist is now in custody after crashing into a Winnipeg Transit bus while he was being tailed by police on Friday morning.

Const. Claude Chancy said the crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. near Selkirk Avenue and Andrews Street, in Winnipeg’s North End neighbourhood.

Police closed Selkirk Avenue for about an hour before reopening the street around noon.

Chancy said the driver was being followed by North District general patrol and canine units at the time of the crash.

Chancy had no information on injuries. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Chancy could not say why police were following the driver or what led to the crash, stating police may provide more information Saturday.
