Jets fall in overtime to Leafs

The Winnipeg Jets fell 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canada Life Centre.

Max Domi scored in the three-on-three session, converting a pass from Auston Matthews on a 2-on-1 rush

Winnipeg led by a pair of goals at two points in the game, but the visitors refused to go away quietly. Bobby McMann tied the game with less than five minutes left in regulation. Matthews and Oliver Ekman-Larsson had the other goals for Toronto.

Alex Iafallo, Kyle Connor and Nino Niederreiter scored for the Jets, who entered play on a four-game winning streak.

Winnipeg falls to 19-22-6 on the year. They return to action on Monday night in Chicago.

Streets, sidewalks, pathways to be plowed Sunday

The City of Winnipeg says it will begin plowing streets, sidewalks, pathways and bike paths Sunday morning.

Motorists are being asked to drive according to the conditions and to use caution when approaching heavy equipment. Routes will be cleared based on the street priority system.

The winter route parking ban remains in effect. Parking is not allowed on designated routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Province announces 11 more measles cases

The province announced 11 new confirmed measles cases Friday, for a total of 333 since February.

The number of probable cases increased by one, to 30. The latest numbers are accurate as of Jan. 10.

All of the 20 people hospitalized so far were unimmunized, or their immunization status was unknown. Sixteen of those 20 were younger than 10, and two of the 20 were in the intensive-care unit.

Crews put out two house fires Friday 

8:33 AM

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews extinguished two fires in the North End on Friday.

Firefighters were sent to a house on the 900 block of Alfred Avenue at about 10 p.m. and declared the blaze there under control an hour later.

Earlier, firefighters were sent to a two-and-a-half storey home on the 500 block of Mountain Avenue shortly after 4:40 p.m. They declared the fire there under control at 6:15 p.m. The home’s residents evacuated before crews arrived, but a cat was found dead inside after the fire.

The causes of both fires are under investigation.
