Woman arrested after stolen goods posted for sale

A Winnipeg woman has been arrested and accused of selling stolen goods.

A retail store in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road reported thefts of merchandise between Jan. 11 and Jan. 26. Winnipeg police investigators found several of the stolen items posted for sale on a social media platform. On Jan. 29, officers arrested a suspect in the Westwood area and located additional stolen goods valued at about $1,450.

A 36-year-old woman from Oakbank is facing charges of trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000 and theft under $5,000. She was released on an undertaking and her name hasn’t been publicly released.

Suspect arrested in downtown assault

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and is accused of arming himself with a knife and assaulting a passerby inside a downtown building.

Winnipeg police received several calls about a disturbance involving a man with a knife in the 300 block of Portage Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30. The perpetrator knocked a man to the ground who had been walking through the building. The other man was able to disarm him of the knife, and several bystanders stepped in to help until police arrived, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday.

The victim had minor injuries and was treated by paramedics on scene.

During the arrest, police used a Taser on the suspect, “who was unco-operative and continued to be violent,” the police service stated in the release..

An 18-year-old man faces charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was released on an undertaking and his name hasn’t been publicly released.

Plows to hit streets this afternoon

9:28 AM

City crews are set to start plowing streets by noon today.

Light snowfall occurred overnight and throughout the day Saturday in various areas of the city; snow-clearing will follow the City of Winnipeg’s street priority system.

The city is asking motorists to drive with caution around the plows and heavy equipment. More information on snow-clearing operations is available on the city’s website. 

Light snow is expected to end this morning, according to Environment Canada’s forecast.

It’ll be mainly cloudy with the temperature dipping to -16 C this afternoon and northwest wind at 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h.
