Two dead following Agnes Street house fire

Two people have died after a house fire in the St. Matthews neighbourhood Saturday.
An 18-year-old woman and a 48-year-old woman have died. Three other people were also taken to hospital, one of whom has been upgraded from critical condition to stable condition, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. The fire broke out in the 300 block of Agnes Street Saturday morning.
Firefighters arrived at about 9:42 a.m. Feb. 7; it took almost five hours for crews to get the fire under control. The blaze was declared under control at about 2:32 p.m.
A total of seven people were assessed by paramedics on scene, with five taken to hospital.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit is now investigating this fire.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously leave a tip at Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
