Comedian Rita Rudner coming to the Burt

Comedian Rita Rudner — the performer behind the longest-running solo female comedy show in the history of Las Vegas — is bringing her witty one-liners to the Burton Cummings Theatre on May 29.

The American standup, who was a regular on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and has several HBO specials, is also an author, penning the non-fiction titles Naked Beneath My Clothes, Rita Rudner’s Guide to Men and I Still Have It…I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It, as well as the novels Tickled Pink and Turning the Tables.

Tickets (prices TBA) go on sale Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.ca.

Selkirk RCMP respond to three armed robberies within four days

Selkirk RCMP are investigating three armed robberies that occurred within four days last week.

Police responded to a robbery at a business in the 200 block of Main Street on Feb. 4, just before 6:30 a.m., in which a suspect demanded money and cigarettes before fleeing on foot. A second robbery at the same business was reported on Feb. 7 around 4:15 a.m., again with the suspect fleeing on foot with cash.

Later that day, just before noon, RCMP responded to a third robbery at a business in the 300 block of Main Street, where the suspect demanded cash and fled on foot.

Investigators believe the same individual may be responsible for all three incidents. The suspect is described as approximately six feet tall, with a slim build, with brown eyes, and wearing a black face mask, black jacket and black-and-white shoes.

CFL vet Santos-Knox signs with Bombers

Jovan Santos-Knox is back where his pro career started.

The 31-year-old linebacker agreed to a one-year contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Tuesday.

Santos-Knox spent the past three seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks and was named the club’s 2025 Most Outstanding Defensive Player. In 111 career CFL games, the University of Massachusetts product has amassed 528 defensive tackles, 16 sacks, five interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

Santos-Knox broke into the league with Winnipeg back in 2017 and played his first two seasons in blue and gold.

Drugs intercepted by Stony Mountain prison staff

Stony Mountain Institution staff seized more than $750,000 worth of banned items, including drugs, on Sunday, the Correctional Service of Canada said.

The drugs, including methamphetamine and THC concentrate, were found in packages.

Police were notified, the CSC said.

Police find ammunition stockpile in apartment suite

Winnipeg police have charged a 28-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man who allegedly had a stockpile of ammunition inside a West End apartment suite.

Officers seized about 500 rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia when they raided the apartment in the 500 block of Maryland Street in January, police said.

The raid was part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the Spence neighbourhood.

The suspects’ charges include possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. The man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order condition.
