Jets keep playoff hopes alive

8:57 PM

This could go down as a season-saving win for the Winnipeg Jets.

Thanks to a late goal from Cole Perfetti that survived a coach’s challenge for goalie interference, the Jets earned a 4-2 victory over the league-leading Colorado Avalanche on Saturday at Ball Arena.

With the win, the Jets improved to 31-30-12 and moved within three points of the Nashville Predators for the second wild-card berth in the Western Conference.

Gabe Vilardi and Cole Koepke also scored for the Jets, who got 21 saves from Connor Hellebuyck as he made his 50th start of the season.

The Jets continue this four-game road trip on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Wrong way vehicle stop nets drug stash: Winnipeg police

10:08 AM

Winnipeg police who pulled over a vehicle driving the wrong direction down Sherbrook Street early on Friday morning found a large stash of illicit drugs.

Winnipeg Police Service patrol officers spotted the SUV going the wrong way down Sherbrook, between Portage and Ellice avenues, and pulled it over just before 12:40 a.m.

Police say the driver was impaired by either drugs or alcohol and had warrants for being unlawfully at large after allegedly violating his parole.

Police found just under 100 grams of crack cocaine, just under 200 grams of powder cocaine, 11 grams of methamphetamine and 11 Xanax pills in the vehicle, plus $3,382 in cash.

Dustin Ryan Chatkana, 35, has been charged with several drug trafficking and impaired driving offences, as well as for the warrants. He was held in custody.
