Man charged after shots fired in home

2:26 PM

A 35-year-old man is facing numerous charges after Blue Hill RCMP say he opened fire inside of a home north of Souris.

Police were called to the home Sunday evening after the man fired a gun several times during a fight with another person in the home, said an RCMP release Tuesday.

Police told the man to leave the home over a loud speaker, but they were ignored.

Roughly three hours later, RCMP entered the home and arrested the suspect, who resisted officers.

Inside the house, RCMP found several prohibited firearms inside of the home, as well as ammo and a tactical vest.

The Souris-area man now faces charges that include assault, forcible confinement, resisting a peace officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was remanded in custody.

Stolen cab destroys RCMP wheelchair ramp

2:01 PM

A 32-year-old man is facing charges after RCMP say he drove a stolen cab to an RCMP detachment in Dauphin, destroying its wheelchair ramp in the process.

On Saturday morning at around 5 a.m. RCMP got a call about the stolen taxi, said a RCMP release Tuesday.

It was reported a man had gotten into the cab and was given a ride to a local hotel, but refused to pay.

The driver then got out of the car, asking the man to leave, but he jumped into the driver seat and drove away instead.

About 30 minutes later, patrol officers spotted the cab, but it refused to stop. It was then located in the parking lot of the local RCMP detachment.

When officers approached, the cab sped away, but then returned. It was then “boxed in” by officers and the man was taken into custody.

RCMP say during the incident, the detachment’s wheelchair ramp was totaled, causing damage to the cab.

The Skowman First Nation man is now facing charges of theft of a vehicle, running from police and mischief.

He remains in custody.

Gun pointed at First Nation safety officers

1:25 PM

RCMP took seven guns from a home and three men were arrested in Manitoba’s north after RCMP say First Nation safety officers were threatened with a gun last week.

On Thursday evening, Shamattawa RCMP got a call from the safety officers who were taking cover behind their vehicle, an RCMP release Tuesday.

Officers were told the FNSOs were at a home for a drug-and-booze possession call, when a resident asked to speak with the community’s chief and council.

The officers then left the home and saw a gun pointed at them from a bedroom window, forcing them to shelter.

While speaking with officers, a man inside the home surrendered and was arrested, alongside two others.

Guns and ammo were seized after RCMP searched the home.

The three men, ages 18 to 47, were arrested and later released with a court date.

The investigation is ongoing.
