Woman charged after attempting to grab RCMP officer’s gun

A woman was arrested after she made a grab at an RCMP officer’s gun in the Rural Municipality of Mossey River earlier this week.

Winnipegosis RCMP officers were called to a home in the RM late Sunday morning for a report of a disturbance, said an RCMP news release Wednesday.

When police arrived at the home, they found a vehicle with its windows smashed out and heard a ruckus inside, said RCMP. As they entered they were met with a man and a woman.

RCMP say the man was taken into custody. However, as they were leaving, the woman pushed the door into police, went outside and tried to get a hold of an officer’s gun. She resisted arrest, but was taken into custody.

The woman, 32, faces charges including resisting arrest, assaulting police and disarming an officer. The man, 36, is charged with assault and mischief.

Both were released on conditions with a court date.

Parents charged after newborn baby left with ‘significant injuries’

A mother and father who live in southeast Manitoba are accused of leaving their newborn baby boy with significant injuries in an assault in September.

On Sept. 9, Manitoba RCMP were advised the parents brought their baby, who was less than a month old at the time, to Winnipeg to get medical treatment for “unexplained injuries.”

Hospital staff who examined the little boy found “significant injuries,” including multiple fractures, lacerations and bruises. The infant was taken into care by a child-welfare authority after the examination, RCMP said.

RCMP child abuse investigators began looking into the injuries and executed a warrant at the parents’ home in rural Manitoba. Crown prosecutors recently authorized aggravated assault charges against the mother and father, who are both 32-years-old.

The parents were released on an undertaking ahead of court proceedings.

Natural gas prices to drop

Manitobans who use natural gas to heat their homes will soon see a price decrease.

The Public Utilities Board has approved the request by Centra Gas to reduce the amount its customers pay for natural gas starting Friday.

The utility says the drop is because the gas commodity rate — the price it pays for gas — has done down and it charges its customers the same rate without taking a profit.

Centra Gas says the typical residential customer will save about $18 per year with the reduction.
