Teen motorcyclist fined $2,800
6:38 PM
A 19-year-old man from Winnipeg was fined $2,800 after RCMP said he was street-racing and stunting on a motorcycle.
On May 24 about noon, an officer with Red River RCMP saw a motorcycle without a proper licence plate travelling north on Highway 59, said an RCMP news release Wednesday.
When the officer turned around to stop the bike, it sped up and started weaving between traffic, travelling 176 kilometres per hour, in a 100 km/h zone.
Near Bird’s Hill provincial park, the motorcyclist rode into the ditch to jump into the southbound lane on Highway 59, said RCMP, once again weaving through traffic.
The officer called for back up and police were able to block the intersection of Highway 59 and Bird’s Hill Road, forcing the motorcyclist to stop.
The teenage rider was arrested without incident and faces $2,800 in fines, including a $1,045 fine for speeding. He also had his licence suspended, his bike impounded for seven days and was served with a serious offence notice.
RCMP continue to investigate.
Sex offender expected to live in Winnipeg
2:59 PM
Police are alerting the public about a sex offender released from custody Wednesday who is considered a high risk to reoffend.
Glen Gregory Tyler Pozniak, 44, is expected to live in Winnipeg.
He is considered a high risk to sexually reoffend against both pre-pubescent and adolescent boys, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit — a joint unit composed of Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP members — said in a news release.
Pozniak was released from the Bowden Institution on statutory release after serving a portion of his sentence for convictions of sexual exploitation, sexual interference and child-sexual abuse imagery crimes.
He was sentenced in 2015 to 13 years and spent more than 11 years behind bars.
Two previous statutory releases were revoked after he tested positive for drugs.
Pozniak completed some sex-offender programming while in custody, but did not finish.
Anyone with information on Pozniak is asked to contact the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 431-489-8056, Winnipeg police at 204-986-6222, local RCMP or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

A man and a woman are facing drug charges after a lengthy investigation by police in a northern Manitoba community.
On Friday evening, police searched a home in Wabowden, located approximately 650 kilometres north of Winnipeg, as part of a “months-long” drug-trafficking investigation, said an RCMP news release Wednesday.
At the Davidson Street home, police found cocaine, drug paraphernalia, knives, illegal guns, electronics and a “score book.”
A 37-year-old Wabowden man has been charged with numerous crimes, including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of restricted weapons and guns and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. He remains in custody.
A 29-year-old woman, also from Wabowden, is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was released on a promise to appear.

Guns, weapons and drugs seized by RCMP in Wabowden following a lengthy investigation by police.
