Police are looking for help finding a woman who has been missing from Thompson for a week.

Gracelynn Spence, 23, was last seen at a residence on Thompson’s Teal Avenue on Thursday morning at about 4 a.m., said an RCMP release Thursday.

Despite extensive search efforts, Spence hasn’t been seen since and RCMP are worried for her well-being.

Spence is five-foot-seven with a medium build and has brown hair. RCMP said she was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a blue top.

Anyone with information about Spence should call Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at manitobacrimestoppers.com

Gracelynn Spence, 23, was last seen a week ago and RCMP are now asking anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.

Police release photos of suspect who attacked 82-year-old man

3:19 PM

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a suspect after an 82-year-old man in Dauphin was pulled down a set of stairs Tuesday evening.

At approximately 7 p.m. police were called to the 200 block of Main Street North where the attack took place, said RCMP Thursday, when police released photos of the suspect.

RCMP said the suspect, who didn’t live at the multi-unit building, was going through trash behind the complex when he was told to leave by the elderly victim.

The suspect then grabbed the victim, who police said was walking down a set of stairs, punched him and dragged him down the staircase by his leg.

The victim suffered minor injuries and the suspect ran away.

RCMP said the suspect is at least five-foot-11, thin and was wearing a red jacket with white lettering. He was also wearing black shoes with white soles with what police said was a logo, or lettering, near the toe.

Anyone with information should call Dauphin RCMP at 1-204-622-5050, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com

City sending out property assessment notices

12:35 PM

Homeowners can expect to receive updated property value letters in their mailboxes soon.

About 243,200 Winnipeg homeowners will learn their property’s value for 2027, as assessed by the city. The value will begin to affect property tax bills that year.

The city is required to update the assessments every two years to reflect changes in the real estate market.

An increase in a property’s value does not translate to an equal increase in property taxes, which are also affected by tax levels in the city’s budget and average property value increases, a city press release notes.

Man, 39, dead after ATV crash in Lake St. Martin First Nation

11:17 AM

One man is dead and another is injured after an ATV crash in Lake St. Martin First Nation last weekend.

Mounties responded to a report of the accident on May 30 at 2:20 a.m. Officers arrived to find two men near the ATV with serious injuries. It was the only vehicle involved, RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

A 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, 50, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released, RCMP said.

Both men were from Winnipeg, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Arrest made in Lynn Lake slaying

10:34 AM

RCMP have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of killing an 18-year-old in Lynn Lake early on Saturday morning.

Local RCMP, along with major crimes investigators, have arrested Phenix Rodgers of Lynn Lake and charged him with manslaughter in the death of the 18-year-old man. Rodgers was held in custody.

Mounties were called to a residence in the community Saturday at 5:30 a.m. about a man who was left badly injured after he was involved in an ATV collision. He was sent to the community’s nursing station and was later pronounced dead.

But officers soon determined the man was not actually in an ATV accident, but rather, had been victim of a homicide, RCMP said earlier this week.

RCMP dog tracks home invasion suspect in Dauphin

10:25 AM

RCMP used a police dog to track down a home invasion suspect hiding under a hedge in Dauphin on Tuesday.

Mounties were called to the break-and-enter at a home on the 100 block of 1st Avenue Southwest at about 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, where the 24-year-old resident advised that a man smashed several windows, broke inside and assaulted him before running off. The victim declined medical help, RCMP say.

Just under a half hour later, officers found a suspect, who took off running again after the Mounties told him he was under arrest. Officers called for a police dog handler to send their canine to help search near 3rd Street Southwest and 4th Avenue Southwest.

Police found the suspect under a hedge. The suspect turned toward an officer with a lawnmower blade and the handler sent the dog to apprehend him, RCMP say.

Officers searched the suspect and found the blade at the scene. Paramedics took him to hospital to be treated for dog bites before he was taken into custody.

A 35-year-old Dauphin man has been charged with assault, assault a police officer with a weapon, break and enter, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief over $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order.

Vehicle stolen during break-in recovered: police

9:02 AM

Police arrested a man on Tuesday who’s accused of stealing a vehicle after breaking into a home in south Winnipeg on Monday.

Police were alerted that keys to a Kia Forte were stolen during the break-in, which occurred at about 9 a.m. on Monday at a home on the 1000 block of Boston Avenue, the Winnipeg Police Service said on Thursday.

On Tuesday, officers from the new rapid response unit were on patrol near Tache Avenue and Provencher Boulevard and spotted the stolen vehicle parked under a train bridge.

Police arrested a suspect in the vehicle and found a hatchet on the front seat. The man was processed by property crime investigators.

Deshawn Joseph Colomb, 21, is charged with break-and-enter, motor vehicle theft, possession of a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order. He was held in custody.
