Police seek info on missing man

Police are renewing calls for information about a man who has been missing for more than a year.

Paul Lacasse, 41, was last in contact with family members on Aug. 9, 2025, in Winnipeg, a Monday news release from the Winnipeg Police Service stated.

He is described as six-foot-one with a heavy build, short wavy brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the WPS missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

One dead after River Heights West house fire

One person is dead and officials are investigating following a house fire in River Heights West Monday morning.  

At 10:23 a.m. crews were called to reports of a fire at a single-family bungalow in the 1000 block of Fleet Avenue, said a news release from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service on Monday.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the house, with crews entering the home and battling the blaze from inside, said the release. The fire was under control approximately 20 minutes later. 

Inside, firefighters found one person and got them out of the home, but they died on scene. 

The fire is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental, said the news release. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Man facing murder charge in Selkirk shooting

A 30-year-old Selkirk man is charged with second-degree murder after a man was shot at a home in the city just north of Winnipeg.

RCMP said officers found the victim inside the Dufferin Avenue home when they arrived shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday.

A number of people were inside and outside the home when police arrived. The victim was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived.

Police said the suspect, Justin Linklater, was arrested at the scene and charged. He was remanded in custody prior to a court appearance.

RCMP did not release the victim’s name.

Driver, 21, killed in Interlake crash

A 21-year-old Thompson man was killed in a crash in the Interlake on Sunday.

RCMP said a southbound truck went into a ditch on Highway 6, just north of Moosehorn, and rolled multiple times at about 5 a.m.

The 21-year-old man, who died at the scene, was driving the truck, police said.

Six passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A STARS air ambulance was called to the scene.

The cause of the rollover is under investigation.

Construction starts to update Kilcona Park

Construction is now officially underway to revamp Kilcona Park.

On Monday, the city started a $6.1-million project to demolish vacant buildings at the Harbourview Park and Recreation Complex (which is part of the property), add a new road through the park, update an off-leash dog area and install a pedestrian/cycling path, seating and shelters, among other amenities.

Throughout construction, all dogs are required to be leashed while at the park.

The city expects to complete the road by fall 2027.

Two homes catch fire in city’s North End

Paramedics assessed four people who escaped a fire that affected two houses in Winnipeg’s North End early this morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews were called to the scene in the 800 block of Redwood Avenue at about 1:45 a.m.

The fire spread from a one-and-a-half-storey house to a neighbouring home and two garages, WFPS said in a news release.

Firefighters sprayed water from outside the structures until it was safe enough to enter both houses to fully extinguish the flames. The fire was declared under control shortly after 2:35 a.m.

The occupants of both homes fled before firefighters arrived. None had to be taken to hospital after being assessed at the scene, WFPS said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
