Police officer loses Taser near Dufferin and Salter

Winnipeg police are searching for an electroshock Taser weapon a patrol officer lost near Dufferin Avenue and Salter Street on Thursday.

Police said the officer’s Taser was “dislodged and separated” from its holster at some point on Thursday morning.

“Efforts are ongoing to locate the device,” said police.

Police urged any members of the public who come across it to immediately call 911, and not to try to operate it.

Kilo of meth seized in traffic stop

Winnipeg police found more than a kilogram of methamphetamine in a vehicle on Wednesday after pulling over a woman who had been under investigation for drug trafficking since last month.

Winnipeg Police Service guns, gangs and drug investigators began looking into the woman in August.

On Wednesday, just before 3 p.m., officers pulled over a Mazda at Fermor Street and Murdock Road, and arrested the woman.

Police found 1.07 kilos of meth and about $275 in cash in the vehicle.

A 37-year-old woman faces charges of possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000. She was let out on an undertaking.

Police renew search for accused arsonist

Police are again asking the public’s help to locate a man accused of extortion and arson in Winnipeg.

Farhan Nabil, 29, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

Six others were previously arrested in connection with extortion and arson incidents at Winnipeg retail businesses in July 2025.

Nabil may be in Ontario, police said.

The charges stem from incidents involving four core-area convenience stores, an unoccupied warehouse, and a retail business on Portage Avenue, where a theft was reported. Three of the targeted convenience stores were located on Selkirk Avenue.

Two arsons were reported at businesses on Selkirk and another on Spruce Street.

Anyone with information about Nabil’s whereabouts is asked to contact their local police agency or the WPS major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).

Man on most-wanted list arrested

Winnipeg police arrested a man on Wednesday evening who has been on the province’s most-wanted list for several months.

Benjamyn John Beaulieu, 21, was wanted on several warrants for firearms offences and assault.

Winnipeg Police Service bail compliance and tactical officers found him in the 400 block of Lipton Street in the West End at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and seized a loaded Glock pistol.

Beaulieu was charged with several firearms offences and on several warrants connected to incidents earlier this year.

He’s accused of showing up at a home downtown and threatening, assaulting and robbing a woman he had a domestic relationship with in March this year.

While still wanted, Beaulieu is also accused of attending a party in the southwest area of the city in early July, where he allegedly pulled out a loaded gun and waved it at others, before fleeing.

He’s been detained in custody.

Voters invited to register for U.S. election

American-Canadian expats in Manitoba will host a U.S. voter registration information event in Winnipeg Sept. 20.

The “meet and greet” will focus on how to register to vote by absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 U.S. mid-term elections, a news release from the group said.  It encouraged U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age and living in Manitoba to attend and ask questions or share their knowledge.  An information handout and voter registration assistance will be available.

The drop-in event is from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bill and Helen Norrie Library at 15 Poseidon Bay.

Man accused of possessing guns despite court orders arrested

RCMP have arrested a man accused of having several firearms at his home in the Rural Municipality of Oakland-Wawanesa despite multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing any weapons.

Brandon RCMP executed a warrant on the man’s rural property at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 31.

Officers seized six firearms, magazines, ammunition and a knife. Three of the guns and some of the ammunition, as well as one of the magazines, are classified as prohibited weapons.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with several firearms offences and court order breaches. He was released on bail.

Man arrested after attempted gunpoint robbery

Winnipeg police have arrested a man accused of attempting to rob another man of his gold jewelry at gunpoint early Tuesday evening.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, had just left a convenience store and was walking to his vehicle near Powers Street and Mountain Avenue just after 5 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service said Thursday.

A suspect followed him and brandished a gun, demanding his gold, but the victim managed to get to his vehicle and speed off.

At about 11:30 p.m., police found a suspect at a home on 400 block of College Avenue.

Major crimes detectives have since charged Waylon Justin Stewart, 31, with armed robbery using a firearm and uttering threats. He’s been held in custody.

One in critical condition after apartment blaze downtown; commercial building on Archibald burns

A person was rushed to hospital in critical condition early Thursday morning after firefighters pulled them from a blaze in an apartment building downtown.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews rushed to the apartment on the 300 block of Vaughan Street at about 5:15 a.m., where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

Firefighters found one person inside who needed to be helped out and paramedics rushed them to hospital. The individual’s gender and age have not been released. Other crews attacked the fire and got it under control by about 6:15 a.m.

Earlier, just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters were called to Archibald Street, near Mission Street, where a blaze was burning in a commercial building.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, but got it under control by just before midnight. No one was hurt.
