Police on scene at Fairmont hotel construction site
7:08 PM
At least three police cars were present at the under-construction Fairmont Winnipeg Thursday evening.
The nature of the response was unclear, but officers were guiding traffic outside of the construction zone at 2 Lombard Place while the response was underway. At 6:50 p.m., traffic was flowing normally.
Security on site provided no information on the response, but an individual working behind site fencing told the Free Press there’d be no comment from anyone on site as to why police were on scene at this time.
An SUV with a Government of Manitoba logo on its side was also present alongside personnel from Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health. However, it’s unknown if it’s connected to the police response.

Second suspect arrested, third sought in Toronto Street shooting
4:26 PM
A second suspect has been arrested and police are searching for a third in a drive-by shooting of a Toronto Street home last month.
The shooting was tied to an altercation between a group of people and a man outside of a hotel on McPhillips Street early on Sept. 18.
The parties went their separate ways, but a vacant home on the 600 block of Toronto Street was shot up a short time later.
The Winnipeg Police Service is searching for 34-year-old Jason Fredrick Moar in connection to the shooting. Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call major crimes detectives at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.
On the morning of the shooting, police spotted a vehicle nearby and took a woman into custody. A loaded firearm and bear spray were seized from the vehicle. The 33-year-old was charged with several firearms offences. She was detained in custody.
On Oct. 5, officers arrested their second suspect in the shooting after a vehicle stop near Victor Street and Notre Dame Avenue. A 34-year-old woman has been charged with several firearms and weapons offences.

Jason Fredrick Moar, 34, is wanted.
Man in critical condition after ATV crash in Keeseekoowenin
2:29 PM
A Brandon man was rushed to hospital in critical condition after an ATV rollover in Keeseekoowenin First Nation on Wednesday night.
Yellowhead RCMP were called to the scene just before 11:30 p.m. and found paramedics treating the injured man, 25, before he was taken to hospital.
Mounties were told two ATVs were travelling south on a trail at a high-rate of speed alongside a truck riding on an adjacent road. One of the ATVs hit an approach at a road crossing and went airborne, causing the driver to lose control and be thrown from the quad.
The driver of the second ATV, a 19-year-old man from the First Nation, is facing impaired driving charges.
Accused grandparent scammer charged in another fraud
2:16 PM
A man already accused in several so-called grandparent scams has been charged in another.
The Winnipeg Police Service said last month that an Edmonton man, Daniel Warren, 29, was arrested in several scams that defrauded three city seniors of cash in August.
On Oct. 5, financial crimes investigators charged him with allegedly defrauding a fourth senior, in their 80s, of more than $14,000 that same month.
Between Aug. 17 and 18, a senior received phone calls from someone pretending to be their grandson and said they needed money for bail. The victim handed over cash, credit cards and jewelry to a man who showed up several times at their home, police said.
Warren, who’s being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre jail, has been charged with another count of fraud over $5,000 and unauthorized use of a credit card.
