Convicted sex offender released, adolescent girls at risk

5:05 PM

Police are warning a convicted sex offender who is a risk to reoffend has been released from prison and is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Cody Lance George Klyne, 38, was released on statutory release on Wednesday, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit, a joint unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP, announced in a news release.

His release comes after serving a portion of a sentence at Stony Mountain Institution for what is described as a violent sexual assault on a 15-year-old female stranger. He is considered a “high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against adolescent females.”

On Feb. 24, 2023, Klyne received a sentence of five years and 104 days, in addition to pretrial custody credit of three years and 261 days and a lifetime weapons prohibition.

Police said in the news release Klyne participated in some treatment programming while in custody, but is still considered at risk to reoffend in a sexual manner, especially against adolescent girls.

Upon his release, Klyne will be subject to several conditions imposed by the Parole Board of Canada.

Police are also reminding the public that any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct directed at Klyne will not be tolerated.

Convicted sex offender Cody Lance George Klyne, 38, was released on statutory release on Oct. 14, 2026 and is considered a risk to reoffend.

City ready to begin controlled burns

2:48 PM

The city announced Wednesday that it will begin conducting controlled burns within city limits this week as long as the weather allows for it.

According to a news release, the City of Winnipeg expects to conduct burns throughout areas of the city starting this week until mid-November, weather permitting.

It will only do so when wind conditions are suitable for burning and with “appropriate fire guards in place.”

Fire plays an important role in the preservation and restoration of prairies and a lack of fire allows weeds to invade endangered plant communities, the city said.

The city said they have been conducting controlled burns on tall grass prairies since 1986.

More information on controlled burns can be found at City of Winnipeg – Controlled Burns.
