And away we go...My newest book, TO THE GRAVE: INSIDE A SPECTACULAR RCMP STING, came back from the printers Friday morning and is now on its way to bookstores across Canada. The 400-page true crime tale should be on McNally, Chapters and Coles store shelves in the next couple days, selling for $11.95. (along with some independent booksellers as well) In a nutshell, TO THE GRAVE chronicles the mysterious April 2002 disappearance of Brandon teenager Erin Chorney, her family's heartbreaking two-year search for answers, and the Hollywood-style police operation which unearthed the shocking truth. (Click HERE for the "story behind the story")The book includes all sorts of never-before-revealed information about the police investigation, the sting operation, and Erin's life, thanks to tremendous co-operation from Brandon police and the Chorney family. You'll see pictures from the family photo album, read poignant diary writings from Erin and get all the chilling details on a series of cryptic, anonymous letters send to the Chorney family and police. And you'll have a front-row seat to every dramatic detail from one of the most memorable police operations in recent memory. The so-called "promotional machine" has already started with an appearance Friday evening on CBC television. It kicks into high gear Sunday when the Free Press will run approximately 100 inches of excerpts from the book in the Perspective section.Next week is more media in Winnipeg and Brandon, along with the first of two official "launches", which will include a selected reading, question-and-answer session, speeches by friends of Erin Chorney and signing. Everyone is welcome!Thursday Nov. 9 - Pennywise Books, 7 p.m. - LAUNCHThe following week is the major Winnipeg launch, where the public is also invited to come and join me for what should be a memorable night. Kelly Dehn, crime reporter with CTV, is the emcee.Thursday Nov. 16 - Chapters Polo Park, 7 p.m. - LAUNCHAfter that is a string of more than a dozen other signings in late November and early December in Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Saskatoon and Calgary. There will also be plenty of media appearances as well, so I apologize in advance if you get sick of hearing from me!It's all very exciting, and I'll document some of the experience here on the blog as we go along.Although this is my third book, it never gets old and I'm quite proud of the year's worth of hard work I put into it and the final finished product.I never pictured myself as having the patience and discipline to write one book, let alone three, as the daily newspaper demands teach you to always think in the "Now" and appreciate immediate returns on your work. But the book writing process has been an extremely rewarding and surprising experience that I wouldn't trade for the world. I have the "bug" and look forward to being able to tell many more stories down the road.If you'd like a signed copy of TO THE GRAVE, come on by one of the launches or signings. I'd be honoured to meet you! Thanks for the support!
