I love Leslie Nielsen. He’s my favourite ever. He is directly responsible for the hardest I’ve ever laughed in my life. It was the first time I saw Naked Gun. My abs and back were sore the next day. I don’t even think I’ve laughed as hard since. I’ll never forget that night. I don’t think a week of my life was gone by since without a Leslie Nielsen quote somehow making it into my brain for some reason. He’s so awesome. I even laugh when I just read the quotes, as I can see the scene in my mind as I read the words. Leslie Nielsen should be celebrated as one of the greatest Canadian actors of all time. Not everyone can pull off funny. I could easily put together a top ten quotes from his career off the top of my head. To narrow it down to a number one is tough.
It could be “Goodyear?” “No, the worst“. It could also be “I’d known her for years. We used to go to all the police functions together. Ah, how I loved her, but she had her music. I think she had her music. She’d hang out with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony. I don’t recall her playing an instrument or being able to carry a tune. Yet she was on the road 300 days of the year. In fact, I bought her a harp for Christmas. She asked me what it was“. But I think my favourite exchange of all time is below… If you don’t know, Frank is played by Leslie Nielsen. Brilliantly, I might add.
Frank: Now, Jane, what can you tell us about the man you saw last night?
Jane: He’s Caucasian.
Ed: Caucasian?
Jane: Yeah, you know, a white guy. A moustache. About six-foot-three.
Frank: Awfully big moustache.
