It was Valentine’s Day this year, and my wife, her friend and two children were coming home from a choir concert that my six-year-old had performed in. They were stopped at a traffic light on Corydon Avenue several blocks before the Assiniboine Zoo and noticed an elderly lady in the car beside them. They were commenting how cute she looked.

Opinion

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 15/05/2013 (4525 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

The light changed and they drove off, the lady passing them a couple of blocks later by the east entrance of the park. There, a car drove into the intersection and T-boned the lady’s car.

My wife and friend rushed to checked on her and found she was bleeding and stuck in her car and quite shaken up. She asked the ladies to stay with her until the ambulance arrived and talk to her. She had been going to see a friend who could not drive and bring her some flowers for Valentine’s Day, she said.

The ambulance arrived and took over. Her injuries were extensive enough that she was hospitalized. My wife and her friend went the next weekend and visited this lady in the hospital and brought her flowers. She was very grateful and thankful.

I feel so blessed to have such a compassionate wife.
