PHILIPPA Middleton, called Pippa, was maid of honour. Her dress was designed and created by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, same as Kate’s. The two tiniest bridesmaids are Grace van Cutsem, and Eliza Lopes, both three. Grace is the daughter of Hugh and Rose van Cutsem. Hugh is a close friend of William and Harry. Eliza Lopes is the granddaughter of Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall.
The other bridesmaids are Lady Louise Windsor, 7, Prince Edward’s daughter; and The Hon. Margarita Armstrong-Jones, 8, the daughter of Viscount and Viscountess Linley, the son and daughter-in-law of Princess Margaret.
The pages are William (Billy) Lowther-Pinkerton, 10, the son of Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Prince William and Prince Harry’s private secretary; and Tom Pettifer, 8, son of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, William and Harry’s nanny.
The young bridesmaids’ dresses were handmade by children’s-wear designer Nicki Macfarlane and her daughter, Charlotte Macfarlane. They echo the style of the bride’s dress and have wild silk sashes of pale gold. As a special memento, each bridesmaid’s name and the date of the wedding have been hand-embroidered into the lining of each dress.
Capes were made for the bridesmaids, but the expected rain stayed away and they never wore them.
The pages’ uniforms are in the style worn by Foot Guards officers at the time of the Regency, in the 1820s. The uniform draws its insignia from the Irish Guards, of which William is Colonel. The tunics have Irish shamrocks on the collars.
