A delayed shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines has forced the province to reschedule pop-up immunization clinics April 12-15.
In a news release sent Monday, the Manitoba government said a delivery of 28,300 doses that were supposed to arrive the week of March 22 didn’t show up until Saturday.
Meanwhile another delivery of 28,400 doses scheduled to arrive this week will not get here until next week.
As a result, the following pop-up clinics will be rescheduled:
● Steinbach (April 12-15)
● Pine Falls (April 13)
● Stonewall (April 13)
● Flin Flon (April 13-15)
● Virden (April 13)
● Russell (April 13)
● Gladstone (April 13)
● Pinawa (April 14)
● Eriksdale (April 14)
● Teulon (April 14)
● The Pas (April 14)
● Swan River (April 14)
● Killarney (April 14)
● Portage la Prairie (April 14-15)
● Arborg (April 15)
● St. Laurent (April 15)
● Beausejour (April 15)
● Dauphin (April 15)
An estimated 7,200 people will be impacted and the province is reaching out by phone, email and text message to alert clients to the change.
People have the option to book an appointment at a mass-vaccination clinic instead, as the pop-up clinics will only be rescheduled based on vaccine deliveries.
According to the province, appointments booked at Glenboro (April 7), Matheson Island (April 8), Pine Dock (April 8), Faulkner (April 8), Whitemouth (April 8) and Piney (April 9) pop-up clinics will be honoured.
No additional appointments are going to be booked at those locations. Other pop-up clinics scheduled this week are not affected.
Age eligibility criteria for the COVID-19 vaccine has not changed from 64 and older for the general population and 44 for First Nations members.
Appointments are available at mass-vaccination clinics in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Morden, the province said. Appointments can be booked online at protectmb.ca or by calling 1-844-626-8222.
So far, 210,088 doses have been administered in Manitoba, including 148,560 first doses.
To date, the province has received 372,030 doses from the federal government.
On Monday, the province did not provide an update on when physicians and pharmacists will begin booking appointments to give the 54,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine the province received last week.
