Here’s a look at the makeup of Manitoba’s new group of federal MPs. We compare the 2015 cohort with the MPs who were elected in 2011.

Gender

Before the election, Manitoba had five female MPs – almost half the number of male MPs. While nationally voters sent a record 88 women MPs to Parliament, Manitoba actually sent fewer – just three this time.

Indigenous representation

It was a milestone for indigenous candidates in this election as well, with a record 10 indigenous MPs getting elected, up from seven in the last House of Commons. But Manitoba did not improve its performance, holding steady at 2 indigenous MPs – Robert-Falcon Ouellette and Dan Vandal.

Experience

A wave of Liberal support that washed over Manitoba along with the rest of Canada swept off several incumbent MPs in the election. Manitoba is now sending as many newcomer MPs to Ottawa as incumbents.

Age

Manitoba’s MPs are mostly in the 50-64 range, with barely any change in this election.
