Ruby Sahota has won the riding of Brampton North for the Liberals.
Sahota has represented the riding in the House of Commons since 2015, when she defeated Conservative incumbent Parm Gill with 48 per cent of the votes cast. She then retained her seat in the 2019 federal election, winning 51 per cent of the votes cast.
She was born and raised in Brampton and studied political science at McMaster University. She graduated from a Michigan law school in 2007.
In terms of the issues, she’s looking to address for residents, the affordability of housing and auto insurance, along with the ongoing stresses due to COVID-19 are top of mind, she said.
Sahota fended off challenges from Conservative Medha Joshi, who worked in banking, insurance and as a realtor, and NDP candidate Teresa Yeh, a teacher at the Peel District School Board.
The Green party did not name a candidate in this riding.
