The race to become the next member of Parliament for the riding of Spadina-Fort York is too close to call in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Liberal candidate was Kevin Vuong, a small-business owner and former navy officer. The party publicly cut ties with Vuong on Saturday, saying if elected, he wouldn’t sit in their caucus. The move came after the Star revealed that Vuong had been charged with sexual assault in 2019. The charge was dropped later that year. Vuong has called the allegation against him “false.”
The NDP candidate was Norm Di Pasquale, who has sat as a Toronto Catholic District School Board trustee, and campaigned against jets at the Toronto city airport and to make Ontario Place more accessible.
The Conservative candidate was Sukhi Jandu, who worked with the party’s national headquarters before tossing her hat in the ring this summer.
The Green candidate was Amanda Rosenstock, a lawyer. And the People’s Party candidate was Ian Roden, a restaurant owner.
The riding has historically gone to the Liberals. Incumbent MP Adam Vaughan, who held the seat federally since 2014, decided against running for another term in office this fall.
