‘Results are flabbergasting’: Martin

Shannon Martin was confident the Progressive Conservatives were going to emerge victorious tonight, but not this victorious.

Reelected in Morris, Martin said he and his colleagues during the last session would talk about having to pick up 10 seats, an amount he called a “huge mental hurdle.”

“These results are flabbergasting. I never imagined we’d win such a big majority,” he said.

The critic for conservation and water stewardship and former provincial director of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business stopped short of saying he had cabinet aspirations.

“The last thing I did in opposition was take a selfie from the opposition benches and put it on Twitter. My hope was it would be the last selfie from that side and the next one would be from the government side. I’m looking forward to taking that government side selfie,” he said with a laugh.

“We’ll see what happens (with the cabinet). We’re all going to have a role to play in cleaning up the mess that’s going to be left behind,” he said.

Martin started off election day by bussing tables at Agape Table and then went to the gym to work off some “nervous energy.”
