If you’re like most Manitobans, you may have begun to dream about the hot days of summer. As you long for fun diversions such as hiking, boating or golfing, some Manitobans just dream of being healthy.

Health Sciences Centre Foundation, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba understand this dream well. And they have dreams, too. For eight years, the foundations have come together to raise funds through the Tri-Hospital Dream Lottery in order to improve Manitobans’ lives – today and for the future.

With your help, the foundations plan to improve surgery outcomes, fund groundbreaking research, expand vital programs, and so much more! Their hard work touches hundreds of thousands of Manitobans’ lives annually.

“Every day, patients across Manitoba rely on life-saving care from HSC,” said Jonathon Lyon, HSC Foundation President & CEO.

Lyon speaks to Operation Excellence, the foundation’s comprehensive six-year initiative to revitalize and refocus HSC as a surgical centre of excellence and innovation. One benefit of this initiative is the acquisition of minimally invasive surgical equipment. With minimally invasive surgery, doctors can use small incisions and treat the patient with small instruments, tubes, and cameras while watching their work on high-definition monitors. Where applicable, this is preferred to conventional open surgery which comes with more pain, a greater risk of infection, and longer hospital stays.

Karen Fowler, President & CEO of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, notes how important the focus on the emergency department expansion is to the hospital. And bring up research, you’ll see Fowler just beam with delight. She’s thrilled St. Boniface Hospital “attracts and retains world-renowned researchers.”

One important goal is to fund research into women’s heart health. Manitoba is the only province without a specific research focus into the uniqueness of women’s heart health. With half of heart attacks affecting Manitoban women, Fowler explains how vital it is for this goal to come to fruition.

When we think of health matters, we typically visualize adults. But kids get sick, too.

Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba President & CEO Stefano Grande daily faces the unique care needs children have – including mental health concerns.

Grande explains that a purchase of a Tri-Hospital Dream Lottery ticket assists in “providing comfort programs and specialized equipment at Manitoba’s only Children’s Hospital focused specifically on the unique needs of sick and injured kids in our communities.”

11,000 babies are delivered in Manitoba yearly. Once delivered, the first question asked is if the baby is healthy. When the answer is no, Grande explains that families look to Children’s Hospital for help and hope.

Grande is thankful to those who support the Tri-Hospital Dream Lottery. “Your ticket purchase today can change a child’s future – and maybe yours too,” says Grande.

While each foundation may have unique objectives to achieve, they share a dream – to improve overall healthcare for Manitobans now and in the future!

So, whether you are a perennial lottery supporter or if this is your first time, know that all funds raised stay in Manitoba and are allocated to the hospitals through the respective foundations. Your purchase will literally make dreams come true!

And the 2023 Tri-Hospital Dream Lottery tickets are on sale now! Early lottery participants will have an even greater chance to win great prizes.  If you order your tickets before midnight, Thursday, May 11, you’ll be entered in the Spring Bonus draw (worth $60,000).
