OTTAWA – Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag had a hat trick each as Germany rolled to a 10-0 win over the Ivory Coast in Group B play at the Women’s World Cup.

Simone Laudehr, Sara Daebritz, Melanie Behringer and Alexandra Popp also scored for Germany in the second-most lopsided win in event history.

The two time World Cup champions own the record for most lopsided World Cup game, an 11-0 rout of Argentina in 2011.

Sasic’s three goals were the fastest hat trick in Women’s World Cup history. Germany is the first country to reach the century goals mark at the tournament, with 101. The United States, which plays Monday, has 98.

Ivory Coast, playing just its second international match of the calendar year and making its first appearance in the Women’s World Cup, was issued six yellow cards in the game and managed just four shots on the German goal.

Despite giving up 10 goals, Ivory Coast goalkeeper Dominique Thiamale turned in a series of outstanding plays to slow the German attack and turned in seven saves.

Earlier, Isabell Herlovsen scored twice as Norway toppled Thailand 4-0 in Group B play.

Trine Ronning opened the scoring for the 11th-ranked Norwegians in the 15th minute when she bent a free kick around a wall of Thai defenders.

Herlovsen added two more five minutes apart as the 1995 champions took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Ada Hegerberg put one more past Thailand’s goalkeeper, Waraporn Boonsing, in the 68th minute.

Thailand, which is ranked 67th and making its Women’s World Cup debut, was overwhelmed much of the match as Norway held 65 per cent of ball possession and a 25-7 edge in shot attempts
