The rich are getting richer in the CFL.

Justin Dunk of Three Down Nation reported Monday that the Calgary Stampeders, current Grey Cup favourites and runaway leaders of the West Division with an 11-2 record, have signed 28-year-old American receiver Chris Matthews.

Matthews, released by the Baltimore Ravens in 2017 after three seasons with the NFL club, was the CFL’s most outstanding rookie in 2012 while playing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

He joined Winnipeg after an unsuccessful tryout with the Cleveland Browns and a stint with the Arena Football League’s Iowa Barnstormers.

As a CFL rookie, the 6-5, 228-pound Matthews caught 81 passes for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns in 18 games. An injury-plagued 2013 season limited Matthews to 14 catches, 138 yards and one TD in four games.

He spent two seasons with the Blue Bombers before signing as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. He was released by the Seahawks midway through the 2015 season and signed with Baltimore, spending parts of three seasons with the club.

In 22 regular-season NFL games spread out over four years, Matthews had 16 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown.
